MAZDA ANNOUNCES 2011 SCCA PRO RACING PLAYBOY MAZDA MX-5 CUP SCHEDULE AND PRIZES

Dec 23, 2010

December 22, 2010 (Irvine, Calif).  MAZDASPEED announced the 2011 SCCA Pro racing Playboy MX-5 Cup Schedule earlier today via a live webcast on www.justin.tv/mazdausa

"Building a race schedule is like assembling a jigsaw puzzle, while riding shotgun in an off-road race.  You are constantly reacting to input from the racers, time and paddock availability at tracks, and working to insure a sane travel schedule.  We think the 2011 schedule will allow our teams to showcase their talents in front of great crowds, and in front of team owners and racers from other series.  With the demise of several other spec series in 2010, we welcome those who are looking for an affordable place to race, one that provides a clear path upwards," noted Jim Jordan, Alternative Marketing Manager, Mazda North American Operations.

The 2011 race schedule is as follows:

Round    Date                         Track                                                 Partners

1              March 4-6                Homestead Miami Speedway       Grand Am

2              April 29-May 1        Road Atlanta                                     Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty

3/4          May 27-30               Lime Rock                                         Grand Am

5              June 17-18             Road America                                  SCCA June Sprints

6              July 9-10                 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca     Grand Am

7/8          September 2-5       Brainerd                                            SCCA PRO

Up to two additional races are still being discussed, which will bring the total to a potential ten races on eight weekends.

Mazda also announced a new prize payment structure that will pay increased amounts for positions fourth through 20th.  Independent teams will also receive a 25% bonus.  Details will be posted to www.mazdamotorsports.com

The MX-5 Cup series champion is promoted to a series above via the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Ladder.  2010 MX-5 Cup Champion Brad Rampelberg will be racing a MAZDASPEED3 in the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Challenge.

Additional series announcements will be made in January of 2011.

On any given weekend, there are more Mazdas on the road-race tracks of America than any other brand of vehicle.  At the track, you'll see MX-5 Miata, RX-8, Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6, RX-7 and other vintage Mazda models competing, because every Mazda has the Soul of a Sports Car.  In fact, the largest road-racing class in the world is Spec Miata, with more than 2,500 first- and second-generation Miatas tearing up America's racetracks, making it the most-raced production car in the world.  Mazda's involvement in motorsports extends to its relationship with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, one of the world's premier road-racing circuits, the Skip Barber Schools for driving and racing, and the Mazda Road to Indy.

Celebrating its 40th Anniversary in the United States in 2010, Mazda North American Operations is headquartered in Irvine, Calif. and oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States, Canada and Mexico through nearly 900 dealers.  Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc., located in Ontario; and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.
