January 24, 2008 (Irvine, Calif). MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development and Sparco Motorsports today announced that Sparco will be the official safety apparel supplier of MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development. All MAZDASPEED members will be able to purchase Sparco nomex suits, underwear, shoes and gloves, as well as technical soft goods for both drivers and crew members at special MAZDASPEED pricing. As part of the standard Mazda club racing program, Sparco branding will appear on all Mazdas racing nationwide.
"A key to MAZDASPEED motorsports success has been with strategic partners who have same passion for excellence as Mazda. Mazda racers need to have the highest quality safety equipment and we trust Sparco as the leader in the field. The fact that their suits look great is a bonus giving our racers speed with style" noted John Doonan, Business Development Manager, MAZDASPEED Motorsports.
"Sparco and MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development have enjoyed a tremendously successful unofficial relationship in the past and this seemed to be the next progression. We are well aware of the fact that on any given weekend Mazda has more racers driving than any other manufacturer and we want to make sure that those Mazda drivers are well protected while being stylish." commented Chris Neuer, Motorsports Manager for Sparco Motorsports.
Sparco provided several MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development teams with suits, gloves, shoes, underwear, seats and harnesses during the 2007 season, including SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Champion Jeff Altenburg. Each of the championship winners within the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder receives a new Sparco suit as a part of their prize package. 2007 Champions Dane Cameron, Joel Miller, Jason Saini, and Brad Rampelberg will all have a distinctive MAZDASPEED Sparco look in 2008.
Chris Neuer also noted that, "Mazda has done an exceptional job creating the finest racing ladder system in the world. A young driver can start in karts, move to Skip Barber National Series, up to the Star Mazda series, onto Champ Car Atlantic Series, all the while having Mazda support. It is just an incredible opportunity for young drivers to live their dreams of becoming a professional race car driver. Sparco is extremely excited to be a part of Mazda's commitment to the future of motorsports and great drivers".
On any given weekend, there are more Mazdas on the road-race tracks of America than any other brand of vehicle. At the track, you'll see MX-5 Miata, RX-8, MAZDA3, MAZDA6, RX-7 and other vintage Mazda models competing, because every Mazda has the Soul of a Sports Car. In fact, the fastest growing road-racing class in the U.S. is the SCCA's Spec Miata class, with nearly 1,500 first- and second-generation Miatas tearing up America's racetracks, making it the most-raced production car in the world. Mazda's involvement in motorsports extends to its relationship with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, one of the world's premier road-racing circuits, and the Skip Barber Schools for driving and racing.
