Athens, Georgia- Brad Akins has been awarded the local Athens Mazda dealership, Mazda North American Operations announced today. Akins also announced plans to build one of Georgia 's first "Retail Revolution" concept stores that will adopt Mazda's new retail philosophy.

The dealership, Akins Mazda, is currently located in a newly remodeled facility at 3375 Atlanta Highway .
Mazda has been committed to establishing a new dealership since not having representation in the market for more than eight months. After an extensive search Akins was the clear choice, according to Blase De Leo , Mazda's Southeast Regional General Manager.
"The Athens market is one of high importance for Mazda in the Southeast. We went through an extensive application process to determine who we felt would be the best owner to represent Mazda in Athens market. We had a high number of qualified applicants; however, in the end, we feel very fortunate to have Brad Akins and his strong reputation for selling cars and satisfying customers come on board with Mazda," De Leo said. "Nothing exemplifies the company's commitment to its customers more than its plans to build a customer-friendly retail revolutions concept store."
Akins, who recently purchased 13 acres of land on Atlanta Highway adjacent to Sam's Club ® to build the new Retail Revolution facility, plans to break ground sometime in the spring of 2006. The new concept store will embrace Mazda's new retail philosophy that focuses on delivering a unique buying experience for car shoppers through technology, environment and the exciting Mazda Test Drive.
No example better illustrates Mazda's new Retail Revolution concept than the Mazda Test Drive. The experience has been created to highlight the company's mantra, "Mazda...Always the Soul of a Sports Car." This experience is created through a custom test-drive center featuring carefully and uniquely selected routes, traffic patterns and road conditions specific to each dealership location.
Another key to Mazda's retail philosophy is found in the use of technology. Today, the vast majority of auto shoppers rely on the Internet to gather objective and reliable vehicle information. Consequently, this process brings an interactive component into the dealership, closing the gap between online information and the Mazda dealership and creating a "site-to-store" experience.
